CONFIDENCE: THE BIGGEST MUSCLE IN YOUR BODY
“Yeah, it’s pretty clear. I ain’t no size two. But I can shake it, shake it, like I’m supposed to do.”
We could all stand to learn a lesson in body confidence from pop star, Meghan Trainor.
We are bombarded with a never ending stream of images and messages that aim to shape our idea of what it means to be perfect. At times we can get lost in the stream, losing our sense of value and sense of self.
With the advent of digital dating and swiping left or right to find a match, the options we have at our fingertips are in the thousands at any given moment. How do we stand out? How do make an impact? Is it diet? Maybe. Is it hitting the gym 5 days a week? Possibly. What makes the biggest difference is our attitude, our love for self and confidence.
Confidence is like any other muscle we have in our body. We have to nourish and train it. Confidence is one of the most attractive qualities anyone can have regardless of shape or size.
Here are a few a few things to remember when training your confidence muscle.
1. YOU DON’T OWE ANYONE ANYTHING
Let’s say you meet the perfect guy. He’s looking for a woman that is 5’10, 110 pounds and blonde. You just happen to be a 5’6″, brunette with curves. That does not mean you are anything short of beautiful and amazing. It simply means that this perfect guy just isn’t a match for you. That is perfectly acceptable. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to change your hair color or break your ankles in stilettos for anyone. The only person you owe anything to is yourself. Be patient with yourself and with the process.
2. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PERFECT
It can be exceptionally overwhelming to stroll the magazine aisle at a bookstore. Your hours at the gym and days of eating only sweet potatoes and chicken can seem for naught. But you have to remember, there is always going to be someone a little bit faster, younger or stronger than you and even the perfect humans that grace the cover of those magazines. What makes this beautiful, is that the playing field is always level. Aiming to be happy and healthy will always put you in first place, no matter what.
3. CELEBRATE YOUR BODY
No one is going to celebrate your body if you don’t do it first. Relying on external validation is going to set you up for failure. Celebration does not necessarily mean you should have a parade for yourself every morning, well, maybe it does. Celebrating your body means treating it right. Giving yourself proper nutrients, exercising and rest is the absolute best way to give yourself the body party you deserve.
4. BODY CONFIDENCE IS ALL IN YOUR HEAD
Have you ever been on a date with someone that blew you away and it had nothing to do with their looks? They just had that “certain something” that drew you to them and you couldn’t quite place it? That certain something was confidence. They believed it, they owned it and you were drawn to it like a moth to a flame. Body confidence is 100% mental. It completely starts from within.
