Holiday Candied Nuts

By | December 12th, 2013

These cinnamony, sugary nuts are a holiday staple and also a sneaky way to pack on the pounds. Craving the candied nut without the guilt? By swapping out butter for egg whites, pecans for a mix of nuts, and sugar for Splenda, the recipe below gives you all the sugary warmth you love, with less fat, and less sugar.

Ingredients: 1 pound of equal parts pecans, walnuts and almonds, 1 cup of Splenda sugar blend {for baking}, 1 tablespoon of Splenda brown sugar blend, 2 egg whites, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Get It Cookin’:

– Pre heat oven to 320 degrees.

– In a bowl beat your egg whites with cinnamon.

– In a large ziplock bag combine sugar & brown sugar.

– Pour nuts into your egg whites and mix together so that they are fully coated.

– Take your coated nuts and pour into the ziplock bag with sugar mixture.

– Mix your nuts and sugar together until they are fully coated with sugar mix.

– On a baking sheet (lined with parchment paper or silpat) evenly distribute the nuts.

– Put in oven for one hour, mixing every 15 minutes.

– After the hour, crank oven up to 400 degrees for the final 20 minutes – give another mix after 10 just to make sure everything is evenly baked!
