11 Exercises You Can Do During Football Season

Is it just me, or does it seem like football is literally on almost every day of the week?  I know I am exaggerating a bit, but I seem to feel like it is always on or someone is always talking about it.  Don’t get me wrong I can hang with some football watching every once in a while but I seem to lose a lot of men in my life this time of year to the television.  This year, I decided to take a “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” attitude.  So I crafted 11 easy-to-follow exercises that I can do throughout the game.  Every time there is a time-out called or a touchdown scored, I’ve got a killer move for you!

TIME OUT (PLANKS)

Timeouts can range from 30 seconds to almost two minutes.  Challenge yourself by holding a plank for duration of time out

TOUCHDOWN (AIR SQUATS)

Jump up and down with the team in celebration and do 25 jumping air squats

EXTRA POINT(S)/FIELD GOAL (PUSH-UPS)

While the men bump their chests, let’s work our chests out with 15 Push-Ups.

INTERCEPTION (JUMP LUNGES)

These require a little more skill so to match up to the difficulty – let’s do 15 jump lunges on each leg

FUMBLE (TINY ARM CIRCLES)

Oops someone has butterfingers… maybe the offending player should be punished and do 3 minutes of tiny arms circles with us – that should teach him not to drop the ball again

INJURY (WHEEL/BRIDGE – PICTURED)

Express your compassion for the injured player by holding wheel or bridge until player leaves the field

PLAY OF MORE THAN 20 YARDS (BURPEES)

Big plays call for a little something extra – feel the excitement (and the burn) with 15 Burpees

FLAG (REVERSE PLANK – PICTURED)

We may pretend we don’t care but we like a little drama so hold reverse plank until the players line back up for next play so we can see what the drama is all about while performing an exercise move

FIRST DOWN (REVERSE CRUNCHES)

There will hopefully be a lot of these, so you could have abs of steel by the time the game is done; complete 15 reverse crunches for every first down

SACK (WALL SIT)

Good or Bad lets feel the burn just like the QB with a 30 second wall sit

BEER COMMERCIAL (JOG IN PLACE)

While the boys are chugging calories, we are taking the extra time to burn the calories by jogging in place until the commercial is over
Feel free to keep score of everything you had to do.  It will always be an unpredictable workout, so the variation everytime will make you want to try this out more than once!  If you are watching with friends, consider splitting up the teams, so that you can also enjoy some of the game.  Good Luck and may the best team win!
